Just so I understand, my goal is to make MY business relationship a FULL admin again, which it has been for many years now--I never had to switch to any other account to do anything at all, arrangement-wise (I am a career-long techie only not so much with this stuff). But if that is non possible anymore, and I have to utilize 1 of those "local admin" accounts, will that nonetheless let MY account install software, for example? I'm guessing the fact it's at least a partial admin it will, only it's sure a lot easier if I don't take to switch accounts :(
Thanks!

I've never quite understood the divergence between a "Microsoft" account and a "local" account. I login on my car with a gmail address, so I'g guessing that must be a Microsoft account? I'm not quite sure what the divergence is betwixt the two account types, bluntly. I'g a career long IT pro, but not in this particular area.
I practice note the accounts labeled every bit "local" I see on the machine were ones I created years ago ON the machine, which certainly implies local in this sense :) One is Administrator, which I just created the other day, another is AdminLocal which I probably created several years agone and labeled as such to sort of differentiate (although I've never used it :) and the third is a second gmail acct not labeled as local, assuming that'south also a Microsoft account? That one I can probably kill, or simply employ equally a backup. All are admins, tho, by my selection every bit nobody else uses this machine.
As noted, tho, my wish is to take my personal account, the first i mentioned above, be a full blown administrator equally information technology used to exist.

If you have an administrator account already then why non use that one? The administrator tin can get to all the files in the PC I believe.
If you utilize the OneDrive cloud yous demand a Microsoft account. And then why not go a Microsoft account and use OneDrive?

I Do use it, and have never had a trouble until recently. All the same, since I believe, v1903, I'one thousand suddenly unable for example, to install software I've used for several years unless I run information technology AS admin. During a normal install, information technology will tell me I don't have access to some temp file or folder the installer uses, and then stops, but it works fine if I run information technology as admin. This has happened with several different and unrelated installs lately, which historically run uneventfully. I'1000 in contact with the author of ane of these packages, and he says there is null different in his package that would exercise this.

Administrators is the user account with highest permissions on the computer. The update made no changes to that.
At that place are organisation accounts with permissions that Administrators does not have.
But at that place is no user or organization business relationship that has complete control of everything. If such an business relationship existed, and was successfully attacked, and then the attacker would take unrestricted complimentary reign on the computer, and could cause havoc.
Surely, equally a "career long developer" you know near the principal of least privilege.
Unfortunately, many people who post here have managed to delete the Administrators business relationship, ofttimes by messing around with the reckoner'due south user accounts, and every bit a result the simply user accounts that remain are Users accounts.
Apparently, y'all have fallen into this trap, because you appear to be running with the Administrator business relationship. That's a arrangement business relationship - non a user account. Ambassador is a lifeline to the computer in situations where the Administrators business relationship has been attacked or, in this case, is missing altogether. You should never treat Ambassador as a user account and never store personal files in that location.
Instead, an of import function of Administrator is to give yous an opportunity to create new user accounts, and that's what you need to do.

>Administrators is the user account with highest permissions on the reckoner. The update made no changes to that.

Merely there is no user or system account that has complete control of everything. If such an account existed, and was successfully attacked, then the attacker would have unrestricted complimentary reign on the computer, and could cause havoc.
Makes sense, of course.
>Surely, as a "career long programmer" you know about the primary of to the lowest degree privilege.
Heh! Of form, but not in this context :) I spent near of my years as a mainframe developer then moved to spider web-based programming. I'yard not a windows newbie, but it'due south not something I've washed all that much with over the years. I do know my limitations :)
>Unfortunately, many people who mail here have managed to delete the Administrators account, ofttimes past messing around with the computer'due south user accounts, and as a result the only user accounts that remain are Users accounts.
I practice know enough that I would never take deliberately removed the Administrator account. I do confess to exist a tweaker, but I absolutely would never accept done that, knowingly anyway.
>Apparently, yous accept fallen into this trap, considering y'all appear to be running with the Administrator account. That'due south a system account - not a user account. Administrator is a lifeline to the estimator in situations where the Administrators business relationship has been attacked or, in this case, is missing altogether. Rightly or wrongly, I sign in with an electronic mail address that is supposed to exist AN administrator, and as noted, used to let me practice pretty much anything I needed to do. And there are no personal files anywhere other than the user associated with the e-mail address I sign in as--I checked. Something has changed, tho, just I don't know what, hence why I'chiliad here.
>Instead, an important role of Administrator is to give you lot an opportunity to create new user accounts, and that's what you demand to do.
Which makes sense.
